Dojo from the get-go

First launch was back in 2009. So with over 15 years in the payments industry, we’ve got a story to tell.

Dojo is built to soothe customer and consumer pain points across the world for over 140,000 customers.

And today, there’s over 1000 of us in multiple locations across the UK, Ireland, Spain, and Italy.

Our mission is to empower businesses to thrive in the experience economy by creating the tools and tech that turn transactions into meaningful relationships.

We do that through sophisticated EPOS payments integrations, fast transactions, hospitality bookings, and a strong consumer restaurant app.

The Role

At Dojo, data is at the core of everything we do. Our Self-Serve Data Platform empowers teams across the company to access, manage, and leverage data independently—accelerating innovation at scale.

We’re looking for an experienced Data Platform Engineering Manager who’s passionate about building high-performing teams and modern data infrastructure. In this role, you’ll lead a talented team of data platform engineers, driving technical excellence and cultivating a culture of collaboration, growth, and ownership.

Your team’s work spans AWS and GCP and leverages modern open-source technologies to build scalable, reliable, and developer-friendly data products. As a leader, you’ll play a key role in shaping the vision and strategy of our data platform while ensuring your team thrives.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead & Grow the Team: Nurture a culture of psychological safety, innovation, and continuous learning. Provide mentorship, feedback, and career development opportunities to help your team grow and succeed.
  • Set the Technical Direction: Partner with Staff Engineers to define the long-term vision and roadmap for our data platform. Champion best practices and influence architectural decisions that scale.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Balance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability. Guide your team through capacity planning, on-call practices, incident response, and reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate Across the Business: Work with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and translate them into self-serve data platform capabilities with high SLAs and a strong developer experience.
  • Product Thinking: Treat the Data Platform as a product—prioritize user experience, reliability, and scalability while continuously gathering feedback from platform consumers.
  • Innovate & Inspire: Stay ahead of the curve by exploring and integrating emerging technologies. Encourage your team to contribute back to the open-source community.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven Leadership: Experience managing and growing high-performing engineering teams, ideally in the data or platform engineering space.
  • Deep Technical Background: Hands-on experience as a data engineer or platform engineer, with strong fundamentals in system design, cloud infrastructure, and software engineering practices.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders, advocate for engineering priorities, and drive alignment across teams.
  • Coding Skills: Proficiency in Golang, Python, or Java—comfortable reviewing code, guiding design decisions, and supporting technical excellence.
  • Big Data Expertise: In-depth experience with tools like Kafka, Flink, dbt, Airflow, and Airbyte, and a solid understanding of building and operating modern data ecosystems.
  • Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or both—comfortable building scalable and resilient infrastructure on cloud platforms.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, ArgoCD, or similar orchestration tools.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
  • Strong understanding of real-time data processing and the streaming ecosystem (Kafka, Flink, etc.).

Why Join Us?

Be part of a fast-growing tech company that’s redefining how businesses use data. You’ll lead a team solving complex challenges at scale, drive meaningful change across the organization, and work with people who truly care about what they build.

Dojo home and away

We believe our best work happens when we collaborate in-person. These “together days” foster communication, drive innovation and spark our brightest ideas.

That's why we have an office-first culture. This means working from the office 4+ days per week.

With offices across Europe, we know a thing or two about staying dynamic. Need deep focus? Head to a quiet zone. Big ideas? Collaboration spaces have you covered. Just here for a catch-up? Our social hubs make it easy. Do work that counts, in spaces made for you.

Question: what’s curious, relentless, and customer obsessed?

If you’re keen to know the answer, you’re a third of the way to meeting our Dojo values.

If the following speak to you, let’s talk:

  • You’re curious. You have a real desire to learn and create.
  • You’re relentless. You keep going even when it’s easier not to.
  • You’re customer-obsessed. You know how important customers are to what you do.
