The role

Our mission is to decouple payments from hardware by building a world-class software payment engine that allows any partner or Dojo app to accept payments, on any device, anywhere. This is the core purpose of our Payment Engine team at Dojo. The technology you will build is fundamental to the future of our in-person payments ecosystem, enabling flexibility and choice for our customers and partners.

As the Engineering Team Lead for the Payment Engine team, you will be at the forefront of this mission. You will be building the next generation of our core payment technology: a world-class software payment engine that will be distributed as a robust SDK. This is a unique opportunity to shape our in-house payment acceptance technology from the ground up, creating the engine that allows any partner or Dojo app to accept payments, on any device, anywhere. The team is mixed discipline with Backend, Android and iOS engineers. We're looking for a delivery-focused leader with a deep background in payments and experience building secure, reliable, and scalable systems. What you will do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of backend (Go), Android and iOS engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, and engineering excellence.
  • Drive the technical execution and delivery of the team roadmap, ensuring your team ships high-quality, reliable software in an agile environment.
  • Own the end-to-end design and development of our core Payment Engine, the software engine that will power payments across the entire Dojo ecosystem.
  • Deliver robust and reliable SDKs for both internal teams and external partners to enable them to take payments on any device.
  • Tackle complex challenges in payment security, data encryption, and compliance, ensuring our software meets the highest standards of trust and reliability.
  • Take technical responsibility for the entire software development lifecycle, from architectural design to deployment and operational health in a high-availability environment.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers and leads of adjacent teams to align on strategy and deliver a cohesive product offering.

What you will bring

  • Proven experience leading and mentoring engineers in a cross-functional environment (Backend/Mobile).
  • Strong knowledge of back-end or mobile development.
  • Experience building and maintaining scalable, high-availability systems.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps practices.
  • A pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset with experience in agile methodologies and a strong belief in quality, automated testing, and CI/CD.
  • A passion for solving complex problems and a product-centric approach to building software.
  • A strong background in and understanding of payment systems, security principles, or PCI compliance.
